Golf Tips

Over the Top
The over-the-top or casting motion is caused by the shoulders opening before the hands drop into the slot which usually results in a weak fade or screaming pull-hook. Instead, make a full shoulder turn during the backswing and allow the hands to drop before the shoulders open. Harvey Penick taught what he called the "Magic Move" where the first move from the transition at the top involved the right arm moving towards the body as the left heel is replanted to the turf.

Rough Chip
When chipping from long, wet, nasty rough the grass has a tendency of grabbing the club through the hitting area thereby causing a poor shot. For better results tilt the club so the toe is slightly down and the heel is slightly up. This allows the club to slide through the grass with less resistance; a handy tip for those narley Bermuda grass lies.

Low-Sided
If the ball seems to be sliding by the low side of the hole, change the ball position at address. A right-hander facing a left-to-right putt should play the ball slightly forward in their stance, and right-to-left putts should be played more towards the center. As with most golf tips, don't over-do it: a half-inch either way will create the desired effect.
